I was born and raised in Rapid City, South Dakota, a community that has always held a special place in my heart. I attended Canyon Lake Elementary, West Middle School, and graduated from Stevens High School. Following graduation, I pursued my passion for public service and earned my bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice from Metropolitan State University of Denver.
My education led me to a career in law enforcement with the Denver Police Department, where I had the privilege of serving my community for blank years, eventually attaining the rank of Sergeant. Throughout my career, I faced the daily challenges and responsibilities of public safety, making difficult decisions while remaining committed to integrity, accountability, and service. After a fulfilling career in law enforcement, I retired in 2022.
While I take great pride in my professional accomplishments, my greatest blessing has always been my family. My wife and I have been happily married for 18 years, and together we are raising our four sons. When we began thinking about where we wanted to build our family's future, returning home to Rapid City was an easy decision. I wanted my boys to grow up surrounded by the same strong values and sense of community that shaped my own childhood. Moving home also meant being closer to my parents and two sisters, who still reside in Rapid City.
Today, my wife and I own and operate Rapid City RV Park and Campground. As small business owners, we have experienced firsthand the responsibilities and challenges of running a business while serving our local community. We have invested not only in our business but also in the community where we have chosen to raise our family and build our future.
My decision to run for Pennington County Commissioner in District 5 comes from a desire to continue serving the community that has given me so much. My years in law enforcement taught me the importance of accountability, integrity, and making difficult decisions based on what is right rather than what is easy. I believe those same principles are essential in public service, and I hope to bring my experience in law enforcement, my perspective as a small business owner, and my lifelong connection to Rapid City to the Pennington County Commission.
For me, Rapid City is more than just the place where I grew up. It is where my family has planted its roots, where my children are growing up, and where I hope to continue a lifetime of service to the community I am proud to call home.
The Pennington County Board of Commissioners serves as the primary governing and legislative authority for the county. Composed of five elected members representing different geographic districts, the board is legally charged with protecting the health, safety, and general welfare of local citizens. Its core operational responsibilities include:
Budget & Taxation Oversight: Approves the multi-million dollar annual county budget. The board sets local tax levies and determines how revenue is distributed across county departments, managing critical funds alongside the County Auditor.
Infrastructure Management: Manages and funds county-maintained public roads, bridges, properties, and essential capital improvements.
Public Safety & Law Enforcement Funding: Allocates critical funding and sets operational oversight for the Pennington County Sheriff’s Office, emergency management, and the local jail systems.
Planning & Zoning Regulation: Votes on local land-use policies, comprehensive county plans, variances, and building permits impacting unincorporated areas. They dictate the pace and structure of housing and commercial development.
Legislative Action: Passes binding county ordinances, policies, and resolutions. A prominent example is the board’s recent implementation of a 0.5% gross receipts sales and use tax (Ordinance 796), enacted to aggressively reduce the property tax burden on owner-occupied homes.
Property tax burdens and responsible spending.
"Government should never outpace the wallets of the hard-working families who fund it. As your County Commissioner, my top priority is maintaining strict fiscal discipline. I will firmly protect our recent property tax relief initiatives, ensuring the new sales tax shift actually lowers the burden on your home rather than feeding county bureaucracy. Every dollar spent from the county budget must serve a core, justifiable public safety or infrastructure need—no exceptions, no waste."
Protecting Property Rights & Cutting Bureaucracy
"True conservative leadership means getting government out of the way of progress. Our county is growing, but that growth should be guided by personal liberty and private property rights—not heavy-handed zoning regulations or delayed building permits. I will fight to slash unnecessary red tape, streamline county services, and keep planning decisions under strict local control. Your property is an investment in your family’s future, and county government should protect that investment, not restrict it."
Law, Order, and Public Trust
"Safety and transparency are the bedrocks of a thriving community. I am committed to fully backing our law enforcement and first responders to keep Pennington County safe, secure, and resilient. Just as importantly, I believe county government belongs to the people. I will push for absolute transparency in our public meetings and budget oversight, guaranteeing that your voice is respected and heard. Let’s keep Pennington County safe, free, and accountable."
